Product Review – Wizard’s Polish

Our product review today highlights the “Polish Infused Cotton” from Wizard’s Polish. This is an amazing product used by our own Tryals Shop staff. For decades, one of our goto products has been the Wenol Red and Wenol Blue Polish. Good stuff, but squirting polish from tube to cloth is an extra step rendered unnecessary with Wizard’s Polish Infused Cotton. Not only is it easier to use, the results are superior, in our opinion. So simple to toss the cotton piece in the trash, when done, rather than having to wash your heavily stained polishing cloth.

To use the Wizard’s product, you only need a tiny piece of the cotton. It is amazing how much polishing can be accomplished with a such a tiny piece. As you polish, occasionally fold the piece over to expose a fresh surface and more polish.

Glowing words are easy to write, so we want to show you a real world example. Below is a before and after photo of the exhaust headers on a Yamaha SRX-6 belonging to one of our staff members. In the before image, you can see the discoloration and splotches of embedded stains that come from allowing road grime to bake onto (into) hot exhaust pipes. The bike was recently acquired and we wanted to do our best to erase this area of oversight by the previous owner. (Just because the pipes are stainless steel does not mean they are maintenance free!)

The first step was to go over the pipes with 800 grit sandpaper, smoothing the surface and removing the stains. We followed that with 1000 grit sandpaper to further smooth and even out the finish. Next came 000 steel wool, which does an excellent job of removing the swirls and lines still remaining from the use of the sandpaper.

Now, with a nice clean surface to work with, the Wizard’s Cotton Infused Polish is used to restore the shine. In all of these steps, you want to apply the necessary elbow grease! One small piece of the Wizard’s cotton was all we needed for both of these pipes. By “small piece”, we mean about as much cotton as you would find on both ends of a Q-Tip combined.

As you use the cotton, a black residue will be removed from the metal. This builds up on the cotton, so occasionally fold it over to move to a fresh surface. It is the loosening and removal of the black residue that brings out the shine. Follow that by buffing the surface with a micro-fiber, or polishing, cloth. Repeat the steps as you feel necessary. As long as you are creating residue, you are continuing to smooth the surface, and improve the shine.

Finally, follow up with Wizard’s Metal Renew Polish for an even richer shine. To help protect all that invested effort, top it off with Wizard’s Power Seal for Motorcycles. This is an acrylic environmental barrier, as well as a micro-polish.

Wizard’s makes an amazing lineup of bike care products. We are proud to recommend them, and make them available to you here in the Tryals Shop store.
